Having spent the first 20 years of my life in Saltash I have great affection for the RAB. It was the means of getting to England quickly until the opening of the road bridge in 1961.
Having lived away, mostly overseas for the last 45 years, I was sad to see during my annual visits home how the maintenance of the bridge structure was being neglected. Now finally Network Rail, the custodians of Brunel's masterpiece, have finally commenced a structural overhaul and badly needed painting. Hopefully we can expect the RAB to provide future generations with a continuation of the rail lifeline to Cornwall.
