AWARDS FOR ALL SUCCESS FOR BRUNEL SCHOOL brunelschoollogo

Brunel Primary School has announced the success of its bid for a grant of £5,000 from the Awards for All Lottery initiative. The bid was made on behalf of all four primary schools in Saltash, and the money will be used to celebrate the bicentenary of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the great Victorian engineer.

A composer, dancers and artists will be working with the schools to produce a street procession with lanterns. The composer, working with the music teachers will write original music, artists will supervise children making the lanterns and artefacts, and dancers will choreograph the performance.

The first performance will be at a Brunel Birthday Party in Longstone Park, Saltash on June 22nd, where the children will be showcased at lunchtime. Everyone is welcome to join this open air “Picnic in the Park”

Later in the year, on an autumn evening, the children will provide a lighted procession down Fore Street to the Royal Albert Bridge.

Saltash has always celebrated milestones in the life of Brunel, and of the Bridge, and it is hoped that Brunel’s 200th anniversary will be especially memorable for the children of Saltash
