150th Anniversary

In 2009 the town of Saltash celebrated the 150th Anniversary of the opening of the bridge by Prince Albert in 1859.
There were walks and talks, fireworks and steam. A wonderful series of events that both Isambard and the Prince would have been proud of. The events were spearheaded by a team from Ashtorre Rock led by Lynn Marsh. There were so many highlights, but the firework display surely rivalled almost anything anywhere in the world.
For many though the chance to get up close and personal with the bridge was just as hood. Network Rail kindly agreed to allow two walks to take place across the track bed and over 1000 people were lucky enough to participate on two early Sunday mornings.
